DETAILS

A restrained, complex and highly textural wine with gentle florals and pure fruit. This is a distinctly savoury wine with a salinity akin to licking your lips at the beach.

WINEMAKING NOTES

Whole bunches were gently pressed over a six-hour cycle for controlled skin contact, and to minimise juice lees and phenolic impurity. Juice was pressed directly to seasoned 500 L puncheons (7+ y.0) for natural fermentation with full solids.

Fermentation took place over a period of 16 weeks in the cool Ashton climes, including full MLF. The wine was aged on lees for two years without sulphur dioxide and with barrels kept topped up, maintaining freshness and vibrancy through a gentle and considered oxidative approach.

The wine was racked cleanly off lees at the end of February 2026, directly to bottle unfined and unfiltered.

50 Doz produced. 12.8% abv

ORIGIN

Sourced from the lower sands of the Yangarra Vineyard where soil texture is a loamier sand over clay, distinct from the beachier high sands of the property where Roussanne and old vine Grenache live. These soils give both perfumed aromatic complexity as well as deep texture and density without heaviness.

INGREDIENTS

Grapes
Old Puncheon barrels

Flowers Release - September 2026

Three out of the four new Flower releases come from the Yangarra Blewitt Springs vineyard, from the 2024 vintage; Grenache Blanc, Roussanne and Grenache. The fourth comes from the Hickinbotham vineyard in Clarendon.

I first worked on the Yangarra vineyard thirty years ago and have a special connection to its old vines and ancient sandy soils. There’s a uniquely “Australian” atmosphere that feels beachy, coastal and native, yet Mediterranean at the same time. By way of my long connection with the vineyard and its people, I enjoy my own unique dedicated sections of the vineyard across old bush vine Grenache planted in 1946, Roussanne and Grenache Blanc from soils of sand over ironstone. Dry-grown on free-draining soils, yielding gorgeous wines with perfume, clarity and stunning texture that only old vines on sand can deliver.

Yangarra is a genuine pioneer of biodynamic and organic farming in Australia. This is evident in the quality of the wines and the elevated sense of balance and purity – and place. The fruit is a natural fit for my craft – a gift to work with.
